Curved Adelaide Hills mansion fetches $3.9 million at auction

December 14, 2020

A cashed-up international buyer has splashed almost $4 million on an Adelaide Hills mansion renowned for its contemporary curved design.

They outbid four other prospective buyers to snap up the jaw-dropping Heathfield property at 14 Williams Road, which sold at auction for $3.9 million at the weekend.

South Australia Sotheby’s International Realty principal Grant Giordano, who sold the property with Jacqui Ilicic, said there were five registered bidders vying for it, with the bidding starting at $3.5 million.

“We had two international bidders going back and forth,” he said.

“We held it over at $3.7 million and negotiated afterwards for $3.9 million.”

He said the buyers were attracted to the property towards the end of its campaign, with two main factors drawing them to it.

“First and foremost it’s the emotional feel the property elicits,” Mr Giordano said.

“Secondly it would be the replacement value cost – the buyer is well aware of what it could cost to rebuilt.”

The impressive five-bedroom home, which is on a 2.62sqm block, was featured in South Australia’s Top 50 Homes and was the state’s second most popular propertyon realestate.com in 2020.

The boutique five-star hotel-style design offers a wine cellar and home theatre, as well as an elevated pool overlooking the rolling hills and tennis court outside.

Property records show the contemporary house has been on the market for more than three years.

It was first listed in September 2017 with another agency before Mr Giordano took over.

Mr Giordano said he felt relieved the property eventually fetched the price it deserved.

“We received so many offers well below that number throughout the campaign,” he said.

“This just demonstrates that others see how lucky we are to not only have the lifestyle but the international design standard at affordable prices.”
